If you're on a budget, the Weider Max is a one of the best home gyms under $600. It's a more affordable alternative to the Bowflex Power Rod gyms.
Like the Bowflex Gyms, the Max also uses bendable bars (crossbows or crossbars) to create resistance.
You can do 65 exercises and get up to 240 pounds of resistance (which you can upgrade to 340 pounds of resistance).
The Max also comes with leg developer, and lat tower - which can sometimes be extra with similar home gyms.
Although it doesn't give you the quality of construction of the higher end Bowflex gyms, when you consider everything you get for this price it's a great value for the money - especially if you're on a budget.
While most well-built weight stack home gyms will cost you $1200+, the Body Solid EXM 1500 is an exception to the rule.
Under $1000, it's affordable for those on a budget and has a compact footprint for those who are limited on space. The EXM 1500s gives you a 160 lb weight stack with over 30 exercises to choose from.
The Body Solid brand is well known for making high quality home gyms and providing excellent customer service should you have any questions about your gym. And the lifetime warranty on everything also gives you peace of mind about the quality of construction.
The EXM 1500 was recommended by a leading Consumer Magazine. It also received a "Best Buy" from Consumer Guide.
Seasoned athletes may find that the 160 lb weight stack isn't enough for them. However, for most people looking for a well made weight stack home gym that won't take up much space, the Body Solid EXM 1500S is one of the best single stack gyms at this price point.
The Bowflex Revolution is pretty much everything you'll ever need in a home gym - and then some. With over 400 exercise variations you can work every major area, plus get a cardio workout with the rowing machine.
The Revolution uses Spiraflex technology which you won't find on any other home gym. SpiraFlex was originally developed for use by astronauts on the International space station. The System uses a series of elastic bands inside a plate like container and is lighter than a traditional iron plate of equal resistance.
Spiraflex technology duplicates the benefits of free weights - giving you more control, a more efficient workout and faster results. The resistance is linear rather than progressive (as is found with the Power Rod system), which many athletes and serious trainers prefer.
You get up to 300 lbs of upper body resistance and 600 lbs of lower body resistance. The Freedom Arms adjust 170° to work muscles from various angles. You also get the preacher curl attachment and leg press station.
Despite being rather new (it was introduced in 2005) the Revolution already rates highly with experts like Men's Health and Popular Mechanics.
While the price may be prohibitive for some (there is a more affordable version at $2299), if you're looking for a premium machine with everything included, the Revolution is the total package.
