Strengths:
The Ultimate Home Gym gives you a lot of variety (90+ exercises) and will help you work your entire body including chest, back, arms, shoulders, abs and legs.
You get up to 410 lbs of resistance, which is a lot better than many other rod or band flex gyms. The lat tower with angled lat bar can also be hard to find on cheaper gyms and helps you work your back and shoulder muscles.
The 2 position adjustable pulleys are another advantage - you can changes angle of resistance to target different muscle groups.
The Ultimate gives you most of the same benefits as the higher priced Ultimate 2 gym. The main differences are that the Ultimate 2 uses the 'no cable change pulley system', gives you a few more exercises and gives you a preacher curl attachment - which doesn't come with the Ultimate.
The Ultimate 2 also has a 5 position adjustable pulley instead of a 2 position pully.
The Ultimate also comes with a rowing machine - which is great for warming up before you workout or getting your cardio in.
The Bowflex Ultimate rates very well with users - the average user rating was 4.5 out of 5 stars. Users especially like the high quality of the machine, the fact that they can work their entire body and get results quickly and that it folds up for easy storage.
Weaknesses:
While there aren't many real weaknesses with the Ultimate, it doesn't come with an ab crunch or preacher curl attachment which are found on Ultimate 2.
Bottom Line: Recommended
The Bow flex Ultimate is a monster machine - beautiful construction, with a huge variety (90+) of exercises and 310-410 lbs of resistance.
Basically the Ultimate gives you most of the features of the Ultimate 2 with a few minor differences (no preacher curl attachment, no 'no cable change' pulley system).
The Bowflex Ultimate would be perfect for people that either know their way around a gym, or for the person who wants to keep their workouts different every time.
Keep in mind however that while the Bowflex Ultimate does fold up the actual gym itself is a bit large so make sure you know your space requirements.
